Gorilla Problem

A more intelligent entity tends to control a less intelligent one—not because it has evil intentions, but because it often has complex goals. If a less intelligent entity becomes an obstacle, it gets rid of it.

For example, if you want to build a highway through a jungle and there happens to be a gorilla habitat in the way, what would you do?

You move the gorillas somewhere else or put them in a zoo.

Let’s say you want to test a new drug or vaccine, but you can’t directly test it on humans. What would you do?

You test it on gorillas or monkeys.

So, humans control the fate of gorillas not because we are stronger, but because we are much smarter.

If you’re building a dam and there happens to be an anthill there, you won’t care about it—you’ll simply destroy it. You don’t hate ants; they just happen to be in your path.

So what if we create an entity more intelligent than us? Would we also lose control over our fate—not because this new entity hates us, but because we happen to become an obstacle in its path?
